CRANIUM: An intervention to increase diabetes screening and treatment in people with severe mental illnesses

Scope

To develop and implement a practice-based intervention to improve metabolic screening in diverse populations with severe mental illness.

What we did

The primary focus of CRANIUM was to create a culture shift where psychiatrists are encouraged to take a more active role in preliminary treatment of metabolic abnormalities in community mental health clinics. We leveraged a primary care e-consultant to assist psychiatrists in making prescription decisions.

Results

The results from this project will transform the way medical care is provided.

Implications

Providers will be encouraged to be more active in ensuring their patients receive comprehensive care.
