Improving outcomes for individuals with depression using a novel mobile app intervention

PRIME

Scope

The focus of this project was on evaluating the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of a mobile intervention for improving clinical outcomes in individuals with depression.

What we did

We conducted an entirely remote, pilot randomized clinical trial with 36 adults with depression.

Results

80% of participants were retained over the 12-week course of the study. Depression scores significantly improved (over 50% reduction), disability scores significant decreased over time (β = -1.17, SE = .36, p = .003), above and beyond medication and outside psychotherapy sessions.

Implications

Results from this study suggest that our intervention is well tolerated by individuals with depression and may lead to clinically significant improvements in mood symptoms and functioning.
